Sodium

Sodium (Na) plays a key role in regulating osmotic pressure, the water-electrolyte balance and the body’s fluid mass. It is the major ion of extracellular fluids. There is very little Sodium in forages and grains, so it must be supplied separately Because horses may not consume enough salt from a regular livestock block to meet their needs--especially in hot weather or during heavy exercise--it may need to be top-dressed on feed.
