GOS

Galacto-oligosaccharides

Galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) are oligomers of lactose (degree of polymerization (dp) 2–6), produced by elongating lactose using β-galactosidase enzymes.

In human infants and experimental animals, supplementing the diet with GOS has been shown to have prebiotic effects, enhancement of the immune system, and lowering incidence of infections.

Studies conducted in foals indicate that GOS is well accepted by the foals, and that no undesirable side effects were encountered.
