Devil's Claw

Harpagophytum Procumbens

Devil's Claw (Harpagophytum procumbens) is a perennial herb from the Kalahari region of Southern Africa, that gets its name from the “claws” found on the fruit. The tuber is what is used for medicinal purposes. The active components in devil's claw are iridoid glycosides, acetylated phenolic glycosides, and terpenoids.

Devil's claw is thought to have antiinflammatory effects, and was reported to help reduce osteoarthritis-related pain in humans in one research study conducted on humans.

Caution
Devil's claw can potentially cause gastric ulcers in horses.
