Biotin (Vitamin B7) is a co-enzyme involved with intermediary metabolism and an essential component of cell proliferation. Symptoms of biotin deficiency in horses consist of:
- Poor hoof quality (such as soft white line and crumbling, cracks, and fissured horn at the bearing border of the hoof wall)
- Dermatitis near the eyes
- Hair loss
- Poor quality, dull haircoat
Studies have shown that supplementing the horse's diet with biotin has a positive affect on the hardness, integrity and conformation of the hoof.
