Beet Root

Beta Vulgaris

Beet root (Beta vulgaris) is a rich source of phytochemical compounds that includes ascorbic acid, carotenoids, phenolic acids and flavonoids with a high inorganic nitrate content. Leaves are a good source of natural antioxidant and widely consumed as vegetables due to its high nutritional value.

Beet root is often used as is a supplement to strengthen endogenous antioxidant defenses, helping to protect cellular components from oxidative damage. A number of studies report that beetroot, in the form of a juice supplement, protects against oxidative damage to DNA, lipid and protein structures in vitro.
