Wry Nose
Rhinocampylus, Campylorhinus Lateralis
Wry nose is a congenital skeletal malformation in the horse. The malformation can vary from mild to severe and the horse will have the upper jaw and nose deviated or turned to one side. The nasal bones, the incisive bones (maxilla or premaxilla), and the nasal septum of the horse is also usually affected, resulting in respiratory problems and exercise intolerance.
The condition is found more commonly in Arabians foals and can cause problems nursing or grazing. The foal should be evaluated for other types of defects.
