Temporomandibular Joint Disease
Temporomandibular Joint Disease
Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disease involves the development of inflammation and pain in the TMJ. The TMJ resides just below and in front of the base of the horse's ear, on either side of the head.
Horses receiving a diet high in concentrate feeds may require more frequent dental prophylactic examinations and treatments to avoid the development of dental irregularities associated with smaller mandibular excursions during chewing.
