Heart failure (HF) is a clinical syndrome which occurs when the heart can no longer pump sufficiently to maintain blood flow to meet the needs of the body. It occurs more commonly in older horses, but can also occur in younger horses with a heart problem or congenital disorder. The signs associated with heart failure vary depending on its stage and cause.
