A 'corn' is a bruise on the horse's foot which is specifically located in the caudal sole at the buttress, which is the angle between the wall and the bar. The location is commonly referred to as the 'seat of the corn'. Corns can be dry, moist, or infected. They are caused by an improperly placed horseshoe, leaving horseshoes on too long which causes pressure on the buttress, or due to horseshoes that have been fitted too close to the quarters or are too small for the horse's foot.
